Medicinal and aromatic plants in Slovenia: similarity and differences to other countries

Samo Kreft was born in 1972, obtained his Master of Pharmacy degree in 1994 and PhD in pharmaceutical sciences in 1999. Since 2010 he is full professor of pharmaceutical biology, teaching courses of Pharmaceutical biology, Phytotherapy, Alternative medicine and Food supplements. He was Head of Chair of Pharmaceutical Biology from 2009 to 2018. His main research activities are: phytochemical analytics, research of Fagopyrum esculentum, Hypericum perforatum, Echinacea purpurea, Abies alba, screening for bioactivities from plant and fungal species and etnopharmacology.

Samo was member of the Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from 2005 to 2019. Apart from scientific articles, he wrote more than 70 popular and professional articles. He is the editor of the book ‘Contemporary Phytotherapy’ and the book ‘Food Supplements’, published Elsevier. In his lecture he will present some examples that show that Slovenia is an integral part of European phytotherapy and aromatherapy, as well as some examples which show unique practices from this country.
