Contact Dermatitis caused by essential oils: implications for patients and practitioners

With over 20 years of experience in dermatology, Thomas is currently the Head of the Dermato- Allergology unit and the Occupational Dermatology unit at the VU University Medical Centre of Amsterdam.
He obtained his medical degree at the University of Münster, Germany and has been trained in dermatology and allergology at the Department of Dermatology in the Municipal Clinics of Dortmund, Germany, and at the Department of Dermatology in VU University Medical Centre of Amsterdam. At the same university he was also trained as an immunologist. Thomas is also the Supervisor of Immunological Research of the Department of Dermatology and program leader of immunological research of the university. The main focus of his research includes experimental immunology and immunological mechanisms underlying allergic and irritant contact dermatitis.
Thomas is co-editor of ‘Kanerva’s Occupational Dermatology’ (Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 2012).
