The use of essential oils in a humanitarian project to repair cleft lip and cleft palate in Madagascar

Anne Moro is a paediatric surgeon specialising in plastic surgery working at the University Hospital of the island of Reunion. She is also a clinical aromatherapist, having obtained her diploma at the University of Strasbourg. In 2018, together with 7 colleagues she founded a humanitarian association: Tsikyrun to operate for free on children and adults born with cleft lip and cleft palate in the high plateaus of Madagascar where the incidence of these deformities is relatively high. During their humanitarian missions, the Tsikyrun team use locally sourced essential oils and related products for disinfection, antisepsis, anxiety and cicatrisation. The association was awarded the first prize by the Gattefosse Foundation in 2018.
